What Is the Working Principle Behind PH Measurement Instruments in Industrial Applications?

Potentiometric Electrode Core Sensing Principle

Industrial pH systems adopt potentiometry. The glass pH electrode generates a voltage proportional to hydrogen ion concentration, while the reference electrode provides a stable fixed potential. The potential difference between the two electrodes reflects the solution's pH value accurately.

Glass Membrane Hydrogen Ion Selective Response

The special thin glass membrane on the pH probe only exchanges H+ ions with the measured liquid. Different hydrogen levels create varying surface potential on the glass layer, forming the key voltage signal used to calculate the exact pH reading by the transmitter.

Stable Reference Electrode Potential Reference

Built-in reference electrode with saturated electrolyte maintains a constant baseline voltage unaffected by liquid pH. It eliminates signal drift, offering a reliable comparison value for the glass electrode’s variable potential to ensure consistent measurement results.

Automatic Temperature Compensation Calibration

Hydrogen ion potential changes with liquid temperature. The integrated NTC temperature sensor feeds real-time temperature data to the transmitter, which automatically corrects raw potential signals to remove temperature-induced pH calculation errors.

PH Measurement Instruments Support Accurate Water Quality and Wastewater Monitoring

  • High-Precision Electrode Sensing

Special selective glass electrodes capture tiny hydrogen ion changes with ±0.02 pH accuracy, stably detecting acidic/alkaline fluctuations in raw sewage, treated wastewater and surface water.

  • Built-In Automatic Temperature Compensation

Integrated NTC sensors offset temperature interference, eliminating calculation deviations caused by cold or hot wastewater to keep readings consistent all day long.

  • Anti-Clog Industrial Electrode Design

Double liquid junction structure resists sludge and chemical sediment buildup, avoiding signal attenuation during long-term submerged wastewater monitoring.

  • Multi-mode Alarm & Control Output

4-20mA and RS485 digital signals plus dual relay contacts trigger dosing pump adjustments, automatically neutralizing wastewater to meet discharge standards.

  • Regular Calibration to Sustain Long-Term Precision

One-touch buffer calibration corrects electrode aging drift, ensuring reliable, audit-ready water quality data for environmental compliance inspections.
